WACS Module Development

The West African College of Surgeons (WACS) is partnering with SELF to create a set of surgical training modules that align with regional priorities and support the development of essential procedural skills across West Africa. These modules aim to strengthen surgical education by offering accessible, self-paced learning opportunities that reflect the realities of local clinical environments.

Focusing on hands-on practice and simulation, the WACS modules are tailored to help trainees and early-career surgeons build competence in key surgical techniques, improve patient outcomes, and advance toward certification and independent practice within the WACS training framework.

What is task deconstruction?

In the context of procedural medicine and training, task deconstruction is a process of breaking down a complex procedure into smaller, manageable components or steps. Each step is analyzed in detail, allowing learners to focus on individual elements of the task before putting everything together into a complete procedure.

The purpose of task deconstruction in procedural skills training is to simplify the learning process and identify key skills required at each step of a procedure.
